Information and Education the Key to Super E development in Ireland

A very informative briefing and training session was delivered on Friday 25th February at the Canadian Embassy for a group of Dublin based Architects and Developers and the Management of Interhabs Ireland. The briefing focused on how Irish Architects, Developers and builders can use the Canadian Super-E building system to benefit from three decades of Canadian research into designing and building more comfortable, healthier and energy efficient housing.

Oliver Drerup, Senior Consultant in Housing Systems for the Canadian Super-E housing programme presented the seminar and hosted the lively discussion. With the imminent EU Building Performance of Buildings Directive (Energy Labelling) it was interesting to see how the experienced Canadian approach to such issues was successful with advanced building technology, airtightness and heat recovery systems.

In terms of compliance with this Energy Labelling Directive, Oliver is confident that Interhabs Ireland will be at the forefront by providing homeowners with a Design Summary, Builder Testimonial, blower door testing and independent Certification on each house completion. As a result all Super-E houses will have an above average energy label which should increase their value over time.
